The Original Canopy Tour Limon

There is a magical place called Veragua (which means “to see water”) in the hills overlooking the Port of Limon, which is the home of The Original Canopy Tour Limon. The entrance to this tour is at a town called Liverpool, about 10 – 15 minutes west of the center of Limon along the main highway between San Jose and Limon. At Liverpool we turn south towards the mountains into the country-side for a closer look at rural life in Costa Rica.

The tour is located only a 55 minute drive away from Limon or about a 3 hour drive from San Jose and here you will find this "Shangri-La" called Veragua Rainforest. There is no experience necessary to particpate in this amazing experience as our highly trained professional system operators will explain everything you need to know before you start the tour. Tour price is $50 for adults and $40 for students and children.

Once you have completed the safety briefing and orientation talk you will then glide silently through the rainforest on our patented dual line safety system over streams and through the canopy level of the rainforest. You will have the opportunity of seeing uninterrupted views of virgin rainforest which stretches as far as the eye can see as this private reserve neighbors the largest park in Central America, called the "Friendship Park" (Parque La Amistad) which straddles the border between Costa Rica and Panama.

The tour has been newly renovated (March 2011) and now starts at the reception area of the impressive Veragua Rainforest Resereve. From here you will pass through 12 traverses (the longest being over 2 football fields in length) over the jungle floor (the highest point is about 150 feet above the forest floor) before you will be returned safely back to the ground. From here you will have a short walk through the jungle before you will arrive to our base camp where you can find refreshments and souvenirs to remind you of your once-in-a-lifetime experience. The tour takes between 1 1/4 hours and 2 hours, depending on the size of your group among other factors.

Please note that the minimum age for this in our Costa Rican locations is 5 years old. If you are visiting us from a cruise ship you will have to book at their shore excursions desk, and make sure you are booking The Original Canopy Tour. Note that on the cruise ships they will not book anyone under the age of 12 years. If you have younger children and would like to take this tour, have the shore excursion manager contact us with the ages of your children and to ask if we will be able to take your family that day.

There is a weight restriction of about 265 pounds although the weight is more a function of body shape than weight itself.

No trip would be complete without immersing yourself into the VERAGUA RAINFOREST RESERVE, a 1,300 hectare (3400 acre) private reserve that is a research and adventure park surrounded by 100% tropical rainforest. Apart from being the home of The Original Canopy Tour Limon, there are other world class exhibits such as the Reptile Vivarium, a Day and Night Frog Exhibit, a Butterfly Garden, an Insect Hall, a Hummingbird Garden, a real life Biological Research Station and an aerial tram that takes you down to the Trail of the Giants (huge old growth trees) and the spectacular Victoria River and Waterfalls. Rates for this full tour (about 3 hours long) are only $55 for adults and $45 for children. When purchased with The Original Canopy Tour, we have the combo package for only $89 for adults and $65 for children.
